how we operate

VolunteersEastport Girls Club operates through an interdisciplinary volunteer planning committee, volunteer tutors, volunteer mentors, other volunteers with special expertise, and paid consultants. Our Team is also supported through a partnership with HACA, a City of Annapolis Grant, the Eastport Civic Association and donations of money and time from numerous local businesses and individuals. Needs Addressed Through Eastport Girls Club

EGC was formed in response to community concerns about safety (for all ages) and the need for more structured and positive opportunities for local youth during after school hours. In addition to concerns about youth and the expressed need for programming that would nurture positive youth development, community adults wanted to be more connected to one another. EGC is an endeavor that simultaneously creates opportunities for youth and adult volunteers.

TARGET POPULATION

EGC currently serves girls in grades 5-9 who live in public housing in Annapolis, MD.

 GIRLS CLUB GOALS

Our program is guided by a long-term vision as well as intermediate goals. Our long-term vision is that participants will graduate from high school, attend college (or some other structured educational or job training program), achieve financial independence, be in healthy relationships, be physically healthy, and feel confident in a variety of cultural and social settings.

We strive towards this long-term vision by working toward the following intermediate goals.

Participants will:

  1. Demonstrate respect and kindness toward others
  2. Demonstrate respect and kindness toward self
  3. Explore new places and meet new people
  4. Become more active in their community
  5. Set and achieve personal goals based on their strengths, dreams, and age (for example, try out for the dance team, be more helpful at home, get a job)
  6. Demonstrate sustained academic success (B average or higher) or in cases where participant has struggled with grades, the goal is that she will demonstrate improvement
